The epicenter of global research is shifting, and Asia is claiming its rightful place

Is the global center of scientific innovation moving? At the 2025 Beijing Forum co-sponsored by Peking University, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies, National University of Singapore President Tan Eng Chye argued yes, presenting evidence that Asia's research output and quality are now surpassing the West. It attributes this accelerating shift to a strategic focus and sustained government investment in top-tier universities and talent development within Asia.
