Qilihai Wetland records highs in migratory bird species and population

Tian explained that this integrated monitoring network enables all-weather, 3-D patrol management of the wetland's core area and creates a safe living space for birds.

The wetland has also reported a breakthrough in breeding. Han Kewu, a staff member with the committee, said: "This is the first time we have found Eurasian Spoonbills nesting here. During patrols, we found about 100 Eurasian Spoonbill nests built in the Xihai area of Qilihai, with an estimated number of over 200 birds."

According to Tian, the finding suggests the wetland is shifting from a stopover site to a breeding ground for some migratory species.

Next year, the reserve plans to cooperate with the State Grid Corporation of China to provide favorable conditions for Oriental white storks to build nests at high places.
