Lakes and wetlands are ideal homes for birds and other animals. Yinchuan, famously known as a lake city in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, is a crucial stop for birds migrating from Western China and East Asia to Western Australia.

According to the latest statistics, 242 types of birds have been recorded in Yinchuan.

In recent years, Yinchuan, acting as an "international wetland city", has conducted systematic ecological conservation programs such as wetland restoration, making cleaning lakes become normally beautiful and warm stations for migrant birds.

As of now, Yinchuan is home to 11 types of first-class protected birds, including black stocks and Chinese mergansers, and 38 types of second-class protected birds, such as whooper swans and white spoonbills.

Vigorously conducting wetland protection and restoration, Yinchuan has accumulated to restore over 2,666 hectares of wetlands. There have been over 52,666 hectares of wetlands and over 200 lakes and marsh wetlands in the city, providing an ideal habitat for migrant birds.

Yinchuan has also strengthened law enforcement to prevent protected birds from being hunted, sold, and eaten. In addition, it has conducted synchronous monitoring and disease prevention and control, ensuring the security of migrant birds.

Yinchuan residents have also taken actions to protect the homes of migrant birds. Volunteers wearing red vests are always seen cleaning trash along wetlands and rescuing fallen young birds in the forest.
