China warns of steps if Japan refuses to withdraw remarks

China will take necessary measures should Japan refuse to withdraw its erroneous remarks on China's Taiwan, and Japan must bear sole responsibility for all consequences, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks on China's Taiwan, China has made it very clear that Japan should immediately correct its wrong words and actions, said He Yadong, the ministry's spokesman, at a news conference.

"Japan should demonstrate through concrete actions its commitment to creating conditions for normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries," He said. "Should Japan persist in its misguided course, China will take necessary measures."

He noted that China remains a safe and rewarding destination for foreign investment, with multinational companies, including Japanese enterprises, expressing strong confidence in the Chinese market.

China is the world's second-largest consumer market, home to the largest middle-income demographic globally, and harbors immense investment and consumption potential, He said.
