The Mount Huangshan Biosphere Reserve has received formal appreciation from the China National Committee for UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme due to its active participation in, and contributions to, the Fifth World Congress of Biosphere Reserves — the first held in Asia.
During the congress, the authorities responsible for Mount Huangshan showcased their innovative approach to balancing conservation and sustainable tourism, drawing attention from UNESCO and experts worldwide.

Since it was designated as such in 2018, Mount Huangshan has established China's first specialized reserve management body and created digital archives for 137 ancient trees.

It has also been developed into China's first zero-carbon mountain scenic area, fostering a win-win synergy between ecological protection and local economic development.
