Jinan tops national rail transit growth in 2025
Jinan has become one of China's fastest-growing cities in urban rail transit expansion, according to the China Association of Metros.
By the end of 2025, the total operational length of urban rail transit nationwide reached 13,000 kilometers, with nearly 911 km added during the year.
In 2025, Jinan set a new record by adding 151.75 km of rail lines, ranking first in China for annual growth and accounting for nearly 17 percent of the nation's total new urban rail. This surge marks a historic leap, with Jinan's total operational rail transit mileage reaching 248.45 km by the end of 2025.
The rapid expansion of Jinan's rail transit network was fueled by the simultaneous opening of several major projects, including Jinan metro lines 4, 8, and the eastern section of Line 6, alongside the Jiyang Line and the SkyShuttle line. In terms of new metro line mileage, Jinan ranked second nationwide, just behind Chengdu, with 85.1 km added in 2025.
