CPC, KMT forum to discuss cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation

A think tank forum between the Chinese Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China will be held in Beijing on Feb 3, a Chinese mainland spokeswoman announced on Wednesday.

Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular news conference that the think tank forum between the CPC and the KMT, focusing on prospects for cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, will be held next Tuesday following consultations between the relevant departments of the two parties.

The forum will be jointly hosted by the Beijing-based research center for cross-Strait relations of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taipei-based "national policy foundation" affiliated with the KMT, Zhang said.

Representatives, experts and scholars from the CPC and the KMT, as well as from various sectors on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, including tourism, industry, technology, healthcare, and environmental protection, will attend the forum, Zhang said.

"They will engage in in-depth discussions on issues such as cross-Strait tourism, industrial development, environmental protection, and sustainable development, with a view to jointly exploring the overall direction of cross-Strait relations and promoting the well-being and interests of compatriots on both sides of the Strait," she said.

Zhang added that the forum aligns with mainstream public opinion on the island and meets the expectations of people on both sides of the Strait.

"It demonstrates the two parties' efforts to seek peace across the Taiwan Strait, promote the well-being of the people, and advance national rejuvenation," she said.
