High-speed rail launched to connect Wuxi, Hong Kong

The first Wuxi-Hong Kong high-speed train arrived at Wuxi East Railway Station in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Jan 26.

It carried representatives from the Federation of HK Jiangsu Community Organizations, Wuxi's Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre Ltd as well as other institutions, aiming to explore opportunities for cooperation.

During the journey, the train transformed into a cultural "living room", with performers showcasing the authentic charm of Wuxi. Highlights included the storytelling and singing art form known as pingtan with the Scenery of Wuxi, the folk music ensemble Jasmine Flower, and the Xiju Opera excerpts from The Pearl Pagoda.

"For us Wuxi natives, taking the high-speed train back to Wuxi is an incredibly convenient option," said Xi Qiang, a passenger. "Having lived in Hong Kong for 46 years, I'm thrilled to be able to frequently visit my hometown."

The high-speed rail link between Wuxi and Hong Kong is anticipated to serve as a vital bridge for exchanges between the two regions, making for easier and faster trips between the two.

Xie Tao, vice-president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Wuxi Women's Federation, said they plan to visit local enterprises during this trip in a bid to uncover more opportunities for collaboration.

From Jan 26 to March 3, residents of Hong Kong can upload proof of their high-speed train ticket to Wuxi to access the "One Ticket Access" package. This package offers a range of perks for shopping, dining, accommodation, travel, and transportation, featuring surprises like "Dining for One Yuan", "Living for One Yuan", and "Night Boat Tour for One Yuan".

Wuxi Taihu Transportation Card Co has specially launched the Year of the Horse commemorative card. With this card, passengers can enjoy a 40 percent discount on buses, a 5 percent discount on the metro, and transfer discounts within 90 minutes in Wuxi. Additionally, they can use the card to ride the Hong Kong metro.
