Chinese New Year comes to Guizhou's slow train

As the Chinese New Year approaches, slow train 5640 from Guiyang to Yuping in Southwest China's Guizhou province has undergone a festive transformation. Adorned with holiday decorations and featuring displays of fresh agricultural products and exquisite intangible cultural heritage items, this mountainous railway line is now brimming with the spirit of the Spring Festival.

Since 1997, train 5640 has traversed a 337-kilometer route between the two areas. Its 16 stations lie deep in the mountains, and by stopping at each one, the train has become an indispensable part of life for residents in over 100 nearby villages.

For the local community, this slow train is a vital lifeline for travel and the primary gateway for buying and selling local specialty products. For the villagers along the line, it is more than just a train — it is celebrated as a pathway to prosperity and happiness.
