Amateur takes 1-million-yuan prize at One-Point-Win event in Shanghai
Amateur tennis player Sun Yiming from Henan province claimed victory in the 2026 One-Point-Win tournament at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium on Saturday and took home the prize of 1 million yuan ($143,960).
Meanwhile, at the Ace the New Year invitational event, Team Pegasus — spearheaded by former women's world No 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Ashleigh Barty of Australia and former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro from Argentina — defeated Team Unicorn, which was led by former Chinese women's No 1 Wang Qiang and former Australian Open runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, of France.
The tournament was designed to be an annual signature event at the Spring Festival in Shanghai with the participation of six international star players, eight influencer players, and 512 amateur players.
"I am happy to be back in Shanghai after eight years. I saw a beautiful crowd and a beautiful stadium and I am so happy to be here celebrating the New Year," del Potro said.
"I knew I have a big fans' club in China. Hopefully I can come back for the Shanghai Masters 1000."
Organizers aim to integrate culture and tourism with the tournament as the ticket holders could enjoy discounts in shopping, entertainment, and accommodation in the city.
