China reaffirms balanced nuclear safety approach
China has always adhered to the rational, coordinated and balanced nuclear safety approach proposed by President Xi Jinping, Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing said on Tuesday.
In a keynote speech at the second Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, Zhang — a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi's special envoy — said China has contributed to the global development of nuclear energy through concrete actions.
China stands ready to work with all parties to jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative, while promoting nuclear energy through innovation-driven development, stronger safety foundations, industrial cooperation and mutually beneficial collaboration, he said.
Such efforts aim to enable nuclear energy to better support global development and prosperity, contribute to a clean, beautiful and sustainable world, and help advance the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, he added.
Heads of state, government leaders or senior representatives from more than 30 countries, along with leaders of relevant international organizations, attended the summit and issued a joint declaration titled "Safe and Affordable Nuclear Energy for All".
In the declaration, participants called for greater inclusion of nuclear energy in the environmental, social and governance policies of international financial institutions, and urged relevant organizations and institutions to help create favorable conditions for nuclear energy development.
