Hong Kong stocks close 1.64% higher

HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks surged 328.1 points, or 1.64 percent, to close at 20,378.66 points Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened 0.46 percent higher and the gain expanded to 1.45 percent by midday. The index peaked at 20,418.31 in the afternoon, tracking strong performances in mainland bourses.

Turnover saw considerable expansion, totaled HK$59.20 billion (about $7.6 billion), compared to HK$45.48 billion.
