Heilongjiang Province is planning to turn a swathe of land in its southwest into a flourishing industry corridor to spur economic growth over the coming years.

The corridor, which covers an area of 2,118 square metres, will centre on Harbin, the provincial capital, and will extend to include the two major industrial cities of Daqing and Qiqihar and nearby areas.

The ambitious plan, which is being drafted by the provincial authority and is close to completion, aims to make the industry corridor will become a locomotive powering Heilongjiang's economic development, said Zhang Zuoji, governor of Heilongjiang Province.

The Harbin-Daqing-Qiqihar Industry Corridor will mainly develop five core industries machinery equipment, petrochemicals, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and high-tech, according to Zhang.

Harbin will focus on the high-tech sector, mainly developing the automobile, aviation, aerospace and environmental industries. Four specific zones will be established in the city.

Daqing, where the country's largest oilfield is located, will focus on the oil and chemical industry, with eight industrial zones being established.

Qiqihar, one of country's major heavy industry bases, will continue to develop the machinery equipment sector and, thanks to its fertile land, the green food industry, with five industrial areas planned.

The agricultural processing industry, which will focus on the dairy sector, will take centre stage in Anda, a city close to Daqing. And, with three industrial zones set to be built, it will also set its sights on the chemical refinery industry, due to its proximity to Daqing.
