Demand for pilots and technicians in Asia Pacific growing

The Asia Pacific region will experience the greatest demand for commercial airline pilots and maintenance technicians over the next 20 years, according to the recently released 2015 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook.

The demand is approximately 40 percent of the global need – more than North America, Africa and Europe combined.

The 2015 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook, an industry forecast of aviation personnel demand, anticipated 226,000 new commercial airline pilots and 238,000 new technicians in the Asia Pacific region through 2034, about 40 percent of which will go to China (about 100,000 pilots and 106,000 technicians), the most promising market in the region.

As with personnel demand, the Asia Pacific region also leads the demand for new commercial airplane deliveries over the next 20 years.

The outlook is issued each summer, projecting the global need for key aviation personnel over the next 20 years.

"The growing demand for new pilots and maintenance technicians translates into challenging, high-tech career opportunities for those who are interested in aerospace," said Sherry Carbary, vice president of Boeing Flight Services.

Accepted by more than 100 regulatory agencies, Boeing Flight Services, a subsidiary of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, operates a global network of 16 training campuses on six continents, providing flight, maintenance and cabin safety training, including three regional training campuses that offer advanced 787 training suites for both flight and maintenance technician training.
