Tesla teams with property developer to expand charging poles

TIANJIN - US electric car maker Tesla announced it will work with a Hong Hong property developer to build more charging poles at shopping malls in six Chinese cities on Monday.

Tesla said it agreed to build the public charging facilities at shopping malls operated by Hang Lung Properties in Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuxi, Dalian, Jinan and Shenyang.

Apart from the destination charging poles, Tesla will also build supercharging stations, as well as charging poles at the homes for customers.

Zhu Xiaotong, president of Tesla China, said the US car marker hopes to provide convenient charging services for Chinese customers in a bid to encourage more people to love their cars.

On June 25, Tesla announced that it would establish seven supercharging networks in major cities and popular travel destinations in China in the second half of this year.

The new charging stations will be in the Yangtze River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and at East China's Mount Huangshan, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

Tesla has its second largest charging network in China -- second only to the United States -- with hundreds of supercharging stations and more than 1,400 public charging poles in operation across China.

Tesla superchargers, jointly powered by grid electricity and solar energy, can charge Tesla Model S in minutes instead of hours.
