Lindsay Lohan freed after 15 hours in jail

Los Angeles court officials said Lohan's probation had been revoked and a formal warrant for her arrest had been issued after she failed a court-ordered drug test a few weeks following her release from jail and a subsequent stint in drug rehabilitation. Actress Lindsay Lohan was freed from jail late on Friday night after spending around 15 hours behind bars for evidence of another failed drug test, a Los Angeles-based celebrity website reported.

The once-promising star was led handcuffed from a Beverly Hills courtroom early in the morning for a third time in three years when a judge found evidence of substance abuse, which would make her a criminal. He ordered Lohan, 24, jailed until an October 22 hearing, but was later reversed by a supervisor.

She was released from the Century Regional Detention Facility in the south-central Los Angeles suburb of Lynwood just before midnight, celebrity website TMZ reported.

Friday's events marked another low point for the former teen idol and star of films like "Freaky Friday" who has become the latest celebrity to fall from showbusiness grace.

During late July and August, the "Mean Girls" actress served two weeks of a 90-day jail sentence and then 22 days in drug rehabilitation after a judge ruled she violated probation on three-year-old charges of drunk driving and cocaine possession.

In 2007, Lohan's original conviction landed her in jail for less than two hours, and the same charges were at the root of her current troubles when last Friday she admitted on Twitter that a court-ordered drug sample turned up bad.

"Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test," Lohan tweeted. An arrest warrant was issued, and she was ordered to appear on Friday in court, where the shocked young woman was whisked away to jail after a brief hearing.

Websites around the world posted a photo of a sober Lohan in an orange, prison-issued jumpsuit -- a stark contrast to the wide sunglasses, sleek black designer blouse and jacket and white skirt she wore earlier that day.

          ANOTHER FALLEN STAR

After making her mark in Disney movies like "The Parent Trap," "Freaky Friday" and "Herbie Fully Loaded," Lohan became a sought-after teenage celebrity. As she grew into adulthood, she earned praise for her small part in director Robert Altman's "A Prairie Home Companion."

But soon after, she began frequenting Los Angeles nightclubs and developed a reputation for partying. Her moves were documented nearly daily by the Hollywood paparazzi.

In May 2007, she crashed a Mercedes-Benz on the famed Sunset Boulevard. Police found cocaine in her car and arrested her on suspicion of drunken driving. Two months later, she was arrested again on similar charges.

Lohan pleaded no contest to two counts each of drunken driving and being under the influence of cocaine, and one count of reckless driving. She spent 84 minutes in jail, was released due to overcrowding and placed on three years probation.

Her probation was extended for a year after she missed some alcohol-education classes, and earlier this year, a judge found her guilty of violating probation by again missing such classes, leading to jail and rehab.
