Tired tyke takes tumble

After nearly three months of treatment, 2-year-old Xiao Yu, of Buji in Shenzhen, is able to sit and stand on his own.

Xiao Yu crawlled to the window by his bed afer napping in his fourth-floor home one day. He fell from the window and landed on a sewage drain cover on May 17. A neighbour found him there unconscious and rushed him to a local hospital.

After three hours of emergency treatment, he was sent to Shenzhen No 2 People's Hospital where a group of physicians were called in to save his life.

He remained in a coma for more than a month and regained conscious after two months of comprehensive medical treatment and high-pressure oxygen treatment.

Doctors encourage parents to remain especially vigilant in the summer, since this time of year sees the highest rate of accidents involving children.
