People's Daily will carry a commentator's article on Monday urging China to learn in depth the important speech made by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee in June and well use the important strategic opportunity period facing the nation.

The article says under the current international and domestic situation, China's development faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges. There are numerous favorable conditions but also some negative factors for development. "The key is how we do our work."

Hu's important speech is of significance for us to soberly acknowledging the development trend of current world and China and thus tightly grasping and well using the important strategic opportunity period to build up a well-off society in an all-round way, the article said.

The 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) proposed that the first 20 years of this century is an important strategic opportunity period which must be fully used. It is a scientific judgement made by the CPC Central Committee after comprehensively analyzing the domestic and overseas situations, the article said.

The article stresses that "we should take development as the most important task and concentrate on economic construction during the period."
