Preparations have already been made for scientists to raise Nanhai One out of the sea. A temporary port and a new museum have now been built for the country's biggest sunken antique ship.

The ancient vessel will be lifted out of the sea and sent to a temporary port for cleaning and loading. Close to the port stands a newly-built museum where antiques unearthed from China's ancient maritime silk road will be exhibited. The museum consists of five oval-shaped buildings, one of which - Crystal Palace - will house Nanhai One. In order to preserve the delicate discovery, archeologists intend to decorate the Palace as the sea environment where the ship sank.

Feng Shaowen, director of Maritime Silk Road Museum Project, said, "Now we are painting the wall and floor with antiseptic and water-proof coating. Special ceilings will also be installed within two days. The conditions here now are suitable for the arrival of Nanhai One."

After Nanhai One is placed in the museum, scientists will inject water into the Crystal Palace and begin their archaeological excavations there. Nanhai One sank in the South China Sea around 800 years ago, going down with thousands of delicate porcelain, iron and bronze handicrafts on board. To ensure the best protection of the discovery, scientists have planned the lifting process using the best equipment and the most-advanced technology.
