Quake lake expected to shrink as drainage speeds up

Premier Wen Jiabao yesterday said efforts to provide medical treatment to the quake victims and prevent an epidemic outbreak have to continue.
Presiding over a quake relief meeting, Wen urged medical teams to minimize fatalities and disability.
He asked local governments to resume health supervision systems, strengthen epidemic surveillance and reporting, and enhance the supervision of drinking water and food safety.
The meeting was briefed on the relief work in Gansu and Shaanxi too - the two other provinces hit by the quake.
The death toll in the quake increased by six to 69,142 yesterday. A total of 374,065 people have been injured and 17,551 are missing, the State Council Information Office said.
Hospitals have treated 95,169 injured quake survivors, 76,554 of who have been discharged and 16,019 are still under treatment.
Relief supplies continued to pour into the quake zone yesterday.
By noon, 950,700 tents, 4.76 million quilts, 13.96 million garments, 854,900 tons of fuel oil and 1.82 million tons of coal had been received.
And domestic and foreign donations reached 44.1 billion yuan ($6.3 billion).
Other developments:
The annual National College Entrance Exams for the 62 quake-hit counties and districts in Sichuan and Gansu provinces will be held from July 3 to 5.
Fifteen Sichuan provincial government officials have been removed from their posts for malpractice in quake relief.
Ranking from village Party chief to deputy municipal civil affairs bureau chief, the officials were blamed for their tardy response to the quake and wrongdoings in relief work, according to the organization department of the provincial committee of Communist Party of China.
