Chinese couple killed in Newcastle

LONDON: A Chinese illegal immigrant has been found guilty of murdering a Chinese couple at their flat in Newcastle, the BBC reported Tuesday.

The mutilated bodies of Yang Zhenxing and his girlfriend Zhou Xi, both 25, were found in their flat Aug 9, 2008.

Restaurant worker Cao Guanghui, 31, had denied the killings.

Cao pretended he wanted to sub-let a room in their flat to make contact with the couple before killing them, the Newcastle Crown Court said. After the murder, he changed his clothes and fled with laptop computers and mobile phones which linked him to the couple. No clear motive was established although blood from the victims was found on Cao's glasses and watch.

The court also heard how the couple had been involved in a lucrative Internet betting scam. Yang also supplied fake education certificates to Chinese students who wanted to enroll in courses in Britain.
