Ad revenue of mobile TV in China totaled $115m in 1H

In the first half of 2009, the advertising revenue of China's mobile televisions reached 788 million yuan ($115.36 million), up 56 percent from one year earlier, according to a report by Analysys International, a Beijing-based research firm, peopledaily.com.cn reported. Both adverting sales revenue and the number of the major mobile television clients grew rapidly.

Mobile television refers mostly to televisions in buses and subways.

According to the report, VisionChina Media Inc, had the largest market share of any out-of-home digital television advertising company, at 50.7 percent. Bus-Online and ToWoNa, were second and third, with 18.0 percent and 15.5 percent in terms of market share respectively.

The total advertising revenue of VisionChina reached $58.07 million, up 73.9 percent compared with the same period last year. As of the second quarter of 2009, VisionChina had 914 clients. VisionChina also had 47.4 percent of digital terminals in first-tier cities and 37.4 in second-tier cities, the most of any company.

Analysys International said because the resources of a city’s mass transportation system are limited, the number of mobile televisions is unlikely to grow rapidly, and out-of-home media operators have to develop new ways to expand their businesses to continue to increase their profits.
