Housing prices, sales jump in Beijing, Shanghai

Housing prices and sales in Beijing and Shanghai were higher from Oct 12 to 18, the first week after the 8-day National Day holiday, the National Business Today reported today.

From Oct 12 to18, 348,900 sq m of commercial residential apartments were sold in Beijing, up 44.47 percent than the week before, according to www.bjfdc.gov.cn, Beijing’s official website disclosing real estate transaction information. Data from real estate industry website www.sofun.com show the average price for Beijing’s real estate market was 16,400 yuan for every sq m, an increase of 17.39 percent from the week before.

In Shanghai, 439,200 sq m of commercial apartments were sold from Oct 12 to 18, up 19 percent than the week before, 339,200 sq m of them for residential purposes, up 15 percent. The average price was 16,628 yuan ($2,435.5) per sq m, the highest weekly price as of the beginning of September, according to the CRIC data system of E-House (China) Holdings Limited, a leading real estate services company in China.
