BEIJING - ConocoPhillips China (COPC) said Tuesday that it has cleaned up a total of 400 barrels of water-oil mixture since the company's production suspension one week ago following two oil spills last month in China's Bohai Bay.

The clean-up efforts by the US-based energy giant ConocoPhillips, however, have fallen short of the 1,500 barrels of oil that the company estimated leaked following the spills.

The oil spill was discovered at the platform B and C at the Penglai 19-3 oil field, which was ordered by the country's oceanic authorities to halt production last Wednesday.

Ni Mingkang, a senior COPC executive, said that platform C is still leaking oil, though at a trickle, while platform B has seen no obvious signs of oil leakages.

Xinhua reporters said oil slicks remain near platform C as of Tuesday.

The company explained that those apparent oil slicks at platform C come from the oil slurry at the seabed, and the company is stepping up efforts to clean it up.
