Knife attack on woman arouses attention online

A video showing a woman being attacked by a civil servant in Jingjiang of East China's Jiangsu province has aroused much attention on the Internet in China.

Lu Jianbo, 31, pushed his neighbor Zang Hongmei to the ground and stabbed her with a knife several times on Friday evening after his mother had an argument with her.

The surveillance camera in front of Zang's home recorded the attack. Zang's son uploaded the video on Saturday, which showed that the woman's head, hands and legs were bleeding.

The incident began after Zang's family accused Lu and his family of occupying a public place to build their own home. Zang said Lu grabbed a knife from his car after his mother threw bricks at her house.

Lu's father, one of the top officials of the Jingjiang Public Security Bureau, visited Zang in the hospital on Sunday morning and apologized.

The bureau said in a statement that Lu Jianbo is under criminal detention and the bureau will deal with the case according to law.

The city's disciplinary department also said they will supervise the police investigation.
