Cooking PM 2.5

Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said on Wednesday that compared with vehicles, coal, and industrial dust, cooking was not the major cause of the city's fine particulate matter pollution.

The words came after another city official said on Tuesday that cooking habits among Chinese contributed a lot to PM 2.5, which triggered heated discussions online and was forwarded nearly 20,000 times on weibo, Beijing Youth Daily reported.

200 billion holiday

Wang Dingding, a domestic famous economist said on his weibo that the economic loss caused by annual long holidays was about 200 billion yuan since about 200 million young people spent their holidays on tourism, instead of working.

Wang suggested the country cancel long holidays that are more than three days but his words were questioned by people with some joking that sleeping and eating each day also wastes time and should be cancelled, Yangcheng Evening News reported.

Mental targets

Health authorities in Zhengzhou, Henan province urged its local branches to find at least two severely mental patients among every 1,000 local residents by last October. The whole city has about 9 million people in total.

Community doctors in the city are tired of seeking enough people to fulfill the target and residents complained real patients cannot be helped in time, nandu.com reported.

A statement from Jimmy Spa on his weibo thanked the public for helping to protect his copyright after Zhang Jing, the wife of Xia Junfeng, admitted their nine-year-old son copied Jimmy's painting and apologised on her weibo.

Xia, a street vendor in Liaoning province was executed in September for killing two urban management officers and severely injuring another. His wife, who insisted that Xia was acting in self-defense, was active on weibo and showed many of his son's painting, which aroused great copyright concerns among the public.

Money from sky

About 30,000 yuan suddenly dropped from the sky and was snatched by people on Monday night in Changsha, Hunan province, youth.cn reported.

So far, it was still unknown who is the owner of the money, why or how it appeared, and further investigation is still underway.

1,500 war shells

About 1,500 waste ordnance shells have been found at a construction site near a local primary school in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang province, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The waste shells were abandoned by Japanese troops when they invaded China and now all of them have been collected for further destruction.

China 2nd richest

A report from Credit Suisse Group on Wednesday predicted China will overtake Japan and become the world's second richest country in 2016, China News Service reported.

The US will still be the richest country in the world in 2018 and the number of Chinese millionaires will increase 88 percent by the same year, it said.

Deadly snip

A 30-year-old female killed her boyfriend with a fruit knife in Guangzhou after a quarrel over a haircut.

The female was sentenced to 12 years in jail, Information Times reported.

Football Xi dreams

China's national football team pledged on weibo that all team members will work hard for the country as they prepare for the upcoming competition with Indonesia on Oct 15.

The promise was made after President Xi Jinping expressed his hope China's national football team can enjoy the World Cup finals during a state visit to Indonesia and Malaysia in October.
