Beaten overtaking

A man in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, posted a video online showing him being beaten up by three drivers from Jiaozuo, Henan province when he overtook their cars on Oct 8.

The driver said in video that someone sitting in the other cars was an official, but authorities from Jiaozuo denied this, chengdu.cn reported.

Hacked off

Zheng Yanliang, a 47-year-old rural resident in Baoding, Hebei province cut off his right leg with a hacksaw and a fruit knife at home by himself last year because his leg suffered clogged arteries and he had no money for treatment.

The brave man now hopes some people will support him to fit a new artificial leg so that he can walk and continue to feed his family, Yanzhao Evening News reported.

Lottery loser

A woman surnamed Zhou in Yibin, Sichuan province experienced great disappointment recently when she was told that her 100,000 yuan lottery win was only worth 10 yuan.

Local authorities said the lottery invoice had been printed with an error, Huaxi Metropolitan newspaper reported.

Holiday misery

More than 70 percent of 40,000 respondents in an online survey said they were not satisfied about the country’s current holiday arrangements.

Some believed holidays should not be concentrated in certain periods, which could avoid traffic and others said it really troubled their daily when two-day weekends are used for a longer holiday, the Beijing News reported.

Nude apology

A man in Shanghai made a public apology on his weibo for nude photos that he had taken in the downtown area of the city and said he was a fan of body photography.

Some of his photos, one showing a woman running in the city’s downtown area at midnight with a bare chest and other private parts, have been posted online and some criticized the move as it bears no relations to art, eastday.com reported.

Deflated duck

The giant rubber duck, the brainchild of Dutch artist Florentijin Hofman, was deflated to avoid the huge gale at the Summer Palace in Beijing on Thursday. The deflation is to prevent the duck from blowing away when the wind reached level 4 on the Beaufort scale .The strong wind drove away the haze that was shrouding the capital for many days. Licensed hacker

A computer savvy man who was frustrated with not getting a car license plate for a year in Beijing finally found an outlet to vent his anger by attacking the ballot website, sending over 920,000 false messages to the website’s subscribers. The man is now standing trial at Chaoyang court in Beijing.

In order to ease the capital’s gridlock, Beijing started to use a ballot system for car purchases at the end of 2010.

Child conduct

Guo Degang, a well-known Chinese cross-talk comedian, made a splash on Sina Weibo with a post about parenting. He presented social etiquette that a child should learn from parents. For example, juniors should wait until seniors start eating, and it’s prohibited to rest chopsticks vertically in a bowl because it is reminiscent of incense sticks for the dead. The post has been forwarded, so far, more than 65,000 times on the social networking site.

Conned students?

More than 1,000 college students from the Northern School of Information Engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University, are required to work at a Foxconn plant in Yantai, Shandong province, in order to get their diploma, Beijing Times reported.

Many people claim there may be a financial connection between the school and Foxconn.
