Doctor praised for cheap but effective pills

A doctor who prescribes inexpensive medicine for his patients was recently praised in Binhai county, Jiangsu province.

Ji Yuntian, 74, has worked for Binhai Renci Hospital after retiring as the director of a local hospital's urology department.

He prescribed medicine costing only 1 yuan (16 cents) for a boy who has a problem with frequent urination. After the boy was cured, his father posted their story on the Internet, expressing his gratitude and surprise.

One of Ji's colleague said Ji always prescribes inexpensive medicine for patients, and sometimes even pays the bills of those who cannot afford the medicine.

Ji said he and his wife receive a pension of more than 10,000 yuan a month, and he has continued to work after retirement not for money, but to keep busy.
