The latest-generation Audi A6L, made at Sino-German joint venture FAW Volkswagen, was launched on March 28 with tag prices from 383,000 to 742,600 yuan.

Audi's executives said that the car marks a new milestone of the company's localization campaign in China.

Specially developed for Chinese consumers that prefer roomy back seats, the long-wheelbase saloon is expected to further enhance Audi's competitiveness in the premium market.

The car is 5,015 mm long, 1,874 mm wide and 1,455 mm high with a 3,012 mm wheelbase. It goes head to head with BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class that both have been stretched to meet local preferences.

For the first time, the direct fuel injection technology is used on all variants of the A6L. Engine options include 2.0 liters, 2.5 liters, 2.8 liters and 3.0 liters. Six-speed manual, seven-speed S tronic and eight-speed multitronic transmissions are available.

The most powerful version with 3.0-liter TFSI engine has maximum power of 220 kW and top torque of 440 Nm. It can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and to a top speed of 250km/h.

Start-stop and brake energy regeneration systems are standard on the new A6L to improve fuel efficiency.

Passenger comfort is greatly improved in the latest A6L with new equipment like a panoramic sunroof, ion generator for air quality, backseat entertainment system and seats with a massage function.

Since it was first produced in China in 1999, the Audi A6 and A6L have sold more than 780,000 units.
