Chongqing, one of the pilot cities for a property tax, promised on Friday that the tax will not apply to people on low incomes.

Nearly half of China's nursing homes are refusing to accept elderly people if they have physical or mental impairments, mainly because of severe shortages of nursing staff and healthcare facilities, according to a report released on Tuesday by the country's leading authorities on senior citizens.

The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) of China's manufacturing sector weakened to 52.2 percent in February, a six-month low, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Tuesday.

Car sales in China started off 2011 on a healthy note, with light vehicle sales in January climbing 16 percent over the same month last year to 1.8 million units.
