China poised to lead mobile Internet market

The rapid growth in users will potentially make China the largest mobile Internet power in the world, an official from the Beijing Internet Information office said.

Xia Rihong, who is also a council member with the Beijing Internet Association, made the remarks during the Global Content Delivery Network (GCDN) conference in Beijing.

China's mobile Internet information market is expected to exceed 2 trillion yuan next year, Xia said.

Statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the number of Chinese mobile Internet users totaled 857 million by the end of May this year, a world best.

With 20-years' continuous and rapid development, China has become one of the most important players in the global Internet industry.

"Queen of the Net", Mary Meeker said in her 2014 Internet trend report that China rose rapidly in the global Internet industry. In her list of the top 10 Internet properties by global monthly unique visitors in March 2014; four came from China, compared with only one the previous year.

"China has made great developments in the Internet industry and I believe the nation will become the largest Internet market in the world in the near future, as well as the CDN market", said Wang Song, founder, chairman and CEO of Chinacache International Holdings Ltd, a Nasdaq-listed Internet service provider.

Content delivery speed is vital to Internet companies, said Liang Jie, developing supervisor of China Telecom Guangzhou Research Institute.

"Analysis of websites and applications showed that one second's delay in the user's visit means an 11 percent decrease in flow and 16 percent decrease in user satisfaction", said Liang.

As the most influential industry meeting in the world, the GCDN attracted both domestic and overseas experts and companies.

The conference was co-organized by Internet Information Technology and Safety Specialized Committee of the Beijing Internet Association and the biggest CDN provider in China and Asia, Chinacache, with the theme of "touching the pulse and speeding the revolution of mobile Internet development".
