Sober Gao waxes lyrical, as Cheung and Tse spit fire

Musician and novice director Gao Xiaosong has done the crime and is making the most of his time after being locked up for six months on a DUI (drunk driving) charge.

"My case is not one of injustice, the crime I committed was stupid but harmed no one," he admitted earlier this week, in an interview that reveals the details of his prison life.

Gao says he accepts the punishment he so richly deserved and will not make the same mistake again. He regrets just two things, not seeing his daughter and the premiere of his film in September, My Kingdom, the first commercial movie he has directed.

Since being incarcerated, he says he has been reading Encyclopedia Britannica, something he had only planned to do after retiring. He has also started translating Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and working on a collection of poems and a new film script.
