Kites banned for spooking birds

Shenzhen has imposed a ban on flying kites in the city's mangrove park, situated at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border area.

The ban came after a sharp reduction in the number of wild birds in the park.

Many wild birds have flown over the Shenzhen River to the Hong Kong side after being scared by the huge snakes, centipedes, eagles and other "creature" kites above the mangrove trees.

It was the first time the local government imposed a ban on flying kites in its parks.
