China flu prevention in line with int'l health rules

BEIJING - China's epidemic prevention measures conformed to the international health regulations and the country's own laws, the Health Ministry said Saturday, citing experts' views.

An expert committee under China's joint A(H1N1) prevention and control mechanism, after a careful analysis of the global epidemic situation, concluded the prevention and control polices and quarantine measures the country had adopted were in accordance with the International Health Regulations 2005, the ministry said in a statement.

They also accorded with the country's own Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, Border Quarantine Law as well as its Emergency Regulations on Public Health Contingencies and Measures for the Prevention, the committee said.

"The measures are pragmatic, proper and effective," it said.

In view of the fact that the confirmed cases and infected countries were both increasing globally, the experts suggested the country continue the strict virus containment and surveillance measures and beef up quarantine at its customs.

As of 8 am Saturday, no confirmed or suspected A(H1N1) cases had been reported on the Chinese mainland, the ministry said.

Worldwide, 2,500 confirmed cases, including 46 fatalities, had been reported in 25 countries and regions by then.
