Xixian New Area attracts attention in Hong Kong

Plans to build a modern garden area, which are being promoted by the Xian-Xianyang New Area, have attracted great interest from Hong Kong investors.

Ng Ching Wun, vice-president of the Hong Kong Chinese Manufacturers' Association, said at the Xixian New Area-Hong Kong Cooperation and Development Seminar held in Hong Kong on Thursday that he had visited the area and thought it was a good place for Hong Kong investors.

"The location of the area is very good as it links Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, and Xianyang, as well as part of Tianshui city, in neighboring Gansu province, which gives it room for further development," Wu said.

The Xian-Xianyang New Area — a new development zone approved by the central government — is located between the cities of Xi'an and Xianyang and its planning area is 882 square kilometers, according to Jiang Zelin, deputy governor of Shaanxi province and director of the area's management committee.

Jiang said at the seminar that the new area, which was established on June 13, 2011, has favorable natural conditions and a beautiful ecological environment, which will be well protected during construction of the new area in order to develop a modern garden area.

Jiang said that the province's rich natural resources such as coal, oil and gas produced in northern Shaanxi will provide adequate living and production conditions for the area.

The area will also have preferential investment policies, Jiang said.

At the seminar, the area's representatives displayed 25 key projects with a total investment of 221 billion yuan ($35.5 billion).
