The Dujiangyan base of the China Conservation & Research Center for the Giant Panda was built in 2011 with financial support from the Hong Kong SAR government.
The base is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife research, captive breeding of the giant panda, education on panda conservation, and tourism.
The Wolong Giant Panda Base, or Wolong National Natural Reserve, was severely mauled in the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.
The Bifeng Gorge is located in Ya'an and survived an earthquake in 2013. It only took over one hour by bus from Chengdu.
