To the children of Wenchuan, with love...

Dear kids,

A year has gone by since the disaster struck. I hope you are feeling better now, physically and mentally.

I know it's not easy for you to recover from such a tragedy.

What are 12 months. Maybe even 12 years down the line the earthquake would haunt us as if it happened yesterday.

But we must try to forget the bad memories and think of the brighter side. Think of the beautiful things life has to offer, the love and care the world showered you with.

The quake not only razed our buildings, but also took away people we love. The death toll is not just a number. The victims were part of our families, our friend circles, which are broken forever. Without them, our lives will never be the same again.

But if they could talk, they would tell you they're not happy seeing you sad.

Cheer up and live happily if you want them to rest in peace.

The disaster may have destroyed our homes and families, but it can't destroy our hope.

My dear children, you are the hope of our nation. The smile on your face is the most beautiful sight.

We all believe that one day you will defeat the quake, even though we're sure it won't be easy.

What you saw and experienced on May 12 will at times return to your tiny heads. Don't worry, and don't hesitate to express your feelings. Cry, talk, write, do whatever makes you feel better. Remember, you are not alone. The whole nation is behind you.

My dear children, I know what we have to rebuild together is not only your houses but also your confidence.

You don't want sympathy, you want courage, we know. Behind every tear is a hope.

I will always be there for you and support you in any small way I can.

Let's face the future together, and color it bright.

Your graduation, your day, your choice

Comment on the article "Students in traditional outfits pose for graduation photos" (China Daily Website, April 28)

Senior students wearing traditional outfits on their graduation day - picture perfect. It brought back some fond memories of getting closer to our lives as grownups.

Though we didn't wear Cheongsam, holding that graduation certificate in your hand is still and unforgettable moment.

In my opinion, students are free to decide how they want their graduation day to be etched in their memories.

I think it was a beautiful group picture - the girls clad in Cheongsam, the boys in traditional suits. I admire their creativity.
