At 5:10 am August 11, in the fiber-cable machine room of a general communication center of the Chengdu Military Area Command, with the blare of alarm on the trouble table, it was reported that a section of fiber-cable broke down. With 2 hours of repair, the malfunction was eliminated and the communication was resumed.

This piece of fiber-cable is the trunk communication line connecting the inland of China and the Tibet Autonomous Region. With the breakdown of the cable, the leader on duty indicated the stations along the line to conduct examination to find the malfunction spot. Troops along the line took action immediately.

At 5:13 am, 2 stations reported simultaneously: with optical reverse calculation, the breakdown section has been confirmed. Leaders of the center ordered the adjacent repair unit to rush to repair. 6 officers and men of the third battalion took a repair van out.

This section of fiber-cable has a length of 4000 meter. The surrounding landform is very complex and natural condition is harsh. In 1984, a soldier named Sun Jianguo died in the snowstorm when he was searching for the section of breakdown.

At 5:46 am, the repair van drove into boundless snow area. With just inputting related data by assistant engineer Hu Yongzhi, the spot of breakdown appeared on digital atlas with the best path and road condition provided.

At 5:59 am, the repair unit arrived at the place of breakdown occurred.

At 6:04 am, the unit found the breakdown fiber-cable tip.

At 7:08 am, the malfunction was got rid of and the communication was resumed.
