This department analyzes and researches the macroeconomic situation and provides policy recommendations regarding the use of fiscal and monetary tools for sustained, rapid development of the nation's economy.

The Department undertakes in-depth research on major economic issues of significant concern to the State Council, and is directly involved in the research and decision-making process in a number of key economic reforms in China. It participates in the investigation, discussion and drafting of relevant government documents, and undertakes major research projects designated by the State Council.

The Department conducts research on major issues entrusted by the government ministries and commissions. The Department has undertaken research projects for the Ministry of Commerce, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and China Insurance Regulatory Commission on various major subjects. Many of its policy recommendations have been adopted by the government decision makers.

The main results in its macroeconomic analyses include: The Analysis of China's Macroeconomic Situations (monthly, quarterly & annually); The Analysis of China's Monetary and Financial Situations (quarterly & annually); The Annual Analysis and Prospects for China's Fiscal Situations, etc. The Department has also achieved many prominent results in the research on economic theory. Many of its study achievements have been widely quoted and published by academic circles and media.

Through the joint study and mutual exchanges for years, the Department has established good collaboration and exchange relationships with a number of foreign and international organizations.
