Abstract: In the process of building characteristic small towns, different regions have chosen different paths according to their own resources and development stages. The main types include designated towns, industrial carriers and new platforms. In terms of financial paths, in addition to the self-raised funds of investment enterprises, they are mainly sponsored by the special state construction funds, special transfer payments from the national and provincial departments, policy bank loans, etc. From the perspective of development path, they can be divided into the production-oriented, life-oriented and ecological-oriented. In the future, our main task should be building the supply side of small town economy and contribute to the coordinated development of culture, tourism and community through industrial development in towns. We should scientifically determine the development direction and construction goal of small towns from the dimension of space and time and vigorously develop small town industrial fund based on the strength of the leading industry of small towns. With industrial driving as the start point, we should also orderly make up for the weakness of small town's functions, and resolutely abandon a number of characteristic small town construction plans that do not meet the construction conditions.
