Cooking competition heats up in Gansu

Top chefs from all around the country gathered in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu province, to put their culinary skills to the test in the International Chinese Catering Contest and the Gansu Cooking Contest, on April 27.

The contests, sponsored by the Gansu Provincial Commerce Department and World Federation of Chinese Catering Industry, were aimed at discovering and promoting different folk cuisine found along the Silk Road, an ancient trade route connecting China to the Mediterranean Sea.

Gansu province played an important role on the Silk Road and today is a key part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.
