Long March exhibition opens in Gansu to commemorate 80 year anniversary

An exhibition themed around the Long March was opened in Gansu Museum in Lanzhou city, Northwest China’s Gansu province on Oct 8.

The exhibition presents the history of Red Army’s completion of a military ordeal that covered more than 12,500 km and laid an important foundation for the Communist victory in the civil war.

The Long March took place from October 1934 to October 1936 and helped the Red Army, the forerunner of the People's Liberation Army, to evade encirclement by the Kuomintang army.

An 80,000-strong Red Army set out from Ruijin in Jiangxi province in October 1934. But around 50,000 soldiers died in the battle of crossing the Xiangjiang River in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in late November and early December of 1934.
