Jiangsu's most generous barber

A 55-year-old generous barber in Danyang city, Jiangsu province who has kept prices for his most loyal customers super cheap made headlines in China this past week.

Zhu Hongsheng has been running his barber shop for almost 24 years. The highest price he charges for his haircuts is 5 yuan ($81 cents).

According to Yangtze Evening News, Zhu works everyday from 7:30 am. to 7:00 pm, receiving a constant stream of customers looking for a bargain haircut.

At the age of 19, he started working at a barber shop in Nanjing, the largest in the city at that time. During his tenure, he earned several awards for his work.

Zhu established his own barber business opposite a primary school after he left Nanjing in 1992. At the time he charged his customers only 1 yuan for a haircut.

Later he was forced to relocate his shop into a lane to make way for demolition, but his cheap prices and good service helped him win back most of his old customers.

When asked why he kept the price so low, Zhu responded, "They're all my neighbors and so far, I'm happy with my life. Sometimes, some of the customers did try to give me 10 yuan but I would insist on returning their money."

"I don't need to pay for the rent," he said. "Sometimes, my mum would help me with some work, which can cover my costs of living. It isn't easy for everyone to earn a living."
