Nanjing Massacre films to be screened in Japan

Films depicting the Nanjing Massacre will hit Japan's largest video sharing website, Niconico, on Aug 18 and 24, including films such as "City of Life and Death (Nanjing! Nanjing!)" and "The Memory of Nanjing in 1937".

The Chinese-directed documentary, "Yasukuni," themed on the controversial Yasukuni Shrine, which enshrines 14 Class A war criminals along with 2.4 million of Japan's war dead, will also be aired on Aug 15.

To meet the demand of Japanese netizens to learn accurate historical facts, Niconico announced that it will release a series of anti-fascism-themed documentaries and movies about WWII at a press conference on July 15.

Niconico is a subsidiary of Dwango and is managed by Niwango. The first documentary to be aired online on July 30 will be "Japan & Korea, the Ties that Bind," which was produced under the proposal of Dwango and filmed by a British company. It has adopted a "third party" view in depicting "comfort women" and "territorial disputes" between the two countries during WWII.

The anti-fascism documentaries and films mentioned above have not been officially released in Japanese theaters or on TV thus far.
