News: Ghana pavilion day celebrated

Ghana Pavilion celebrated its National Pavilion Day yesterday at Expo Center with Western Africa style dances.

Hannah Tetteh, Ghana's Minister of Trade and Industry, thanked Expo organizers for inviting the Western Africa country to join the 184-day event and offered support for Ghana's participation in Expo 2010.

World Expos have become stages to exhibit experiences, show team spirit, share innovations and inspire future since 1851's Crystal Palace Exposition, she said.

The trade volume between Ghana and China continued to grow and the Western Africa country was becoming an essential country in which Chinese companies run business such as agriculture, energy, machinery and finance, she added.

She also invited people to visit her home country.

Jiang Zhengyun, China's vice Commissioner General to Expo 2010, said that China and Ghana have traditionally close ties and this year is the 50th anniversary of the two's relations.

China put the link as one of the top priorities and will cooperate with Ghana to further develop the relationship, Jiang said.

Expo 2010 received support from foreign countries including Ghana and in the 184-day event Ghana Pavilion will showcase its human-friendly features and sustainable development ideal, Jiang added.

The Ghana pavilion features holiday resorts, famous arts, masks and statuary, ethnic costumes, textiles, herbal medicine and other aspects of culture and the pavilion will be one of the highlights of Expo 2010, Jiang added.

Performers from Ghana also staged Western African style singing and dancing during the ceremony.

The pavilion with the theme "Garden Cities" stands at Joint-Africa Pavilion in Zone C. The richly colored pavilion displays the West African features of Ghana's cities and the development of rural and urban areas. Entering the pavilion, visitors see the country's famous structure, the Gate of Freedom and Justice. On each side are handcrafted carvings in distinct West African style. The exhibition inside emphasizes conservation of the environment as part of urban development and healthy interaction between urban and rural areas.
