          Online fair to promote e-business
          ( 2003-06-06 09:30) (1)

An online trade fair will begin on June 18 in Qingdao in East China's Shandong Province to explore new ways of attracting overseas investment and promote the development of e-commerce.

Yu Chong, vice-mayor of Qingdao, said the fair will cover such areas as the initiation of investment projects and related information; online business negotiations and consulting; e-commerce applications; the invitation of online bids; online cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and transnational and domestic procurement; and multilingual web services.

The city has already prepared a number of dynamic projects for the online fair, said Yu. They include 100 transnational mergers or acquisitions, information on 2,000 goods suppliers, and 200 projects seeking foreign funding.

Yu said it is the first time the city is getting involved in multinational mergers and acquisitions. Foreign enterprises are expected to buy all or part of various State-owned companies, making them foreign-funded ones.

More than 30 multinational enterprises, including Carrefour, Hyundai, IKEA, JUSCO, Metro and Otto, have signed up for the transnational procurement of more than 600 varieties of goods.

The Qingdao Transnational Procurement Promotion Centre is inviting goods suppliers within Shandong Province as well as China as a whole to take part. The centre is organizing trade talks between suppliers and international enterprises.

Prestigious international consulting and investment organizations and network operators will be invited to take part in a series of activities at the fair.
