          ( 2003-07-30 15:33) (Xinhua)

China Mobile, one of China's major telecommunications giants, has the largest share of 37.4 percent of domestic telecommunications business, according to statistics from the Ministry of Information Industry.

China Telecom, China Netcom and China Unicom claim 31.1 percent, 16.6 percent and 13.4 percent of the country's domestic telecommunications business respectively, the statistics show.

Notably in long-distance call business, the use of fixed phone lines declined remarkably, with corresponding business share falling to 30.1 percent, while the use of mobile phones and IP ( Internet protocol) phone services has risen sharply, with their business shares respectively reaching 28.5 percent and 41.4 percent.

Latest official figures show that the number of telephone users in China rose to 472 million by the end of June. The number of fixed line users is 237.6 million, while the number of mobile phone users reached 234.47 million.

Every 100 Chinese have 19.4 fixed telephones and 18.3 mobile phones on average.
