French hotel group to increase presence in China
          ( 2003-08-13 09:30) (Xinhua)

France's Accor, an international hotel management service, announced Tuesday in Shanghai that it will increase its presence in China by opening nine hotels on the mainland by the end of 2004.

The nine hotels include two economy class known as "Ibis", to open in Tianjin City in north China and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China. Ibis Tianjin will open in October 2003 and Ibis Chengdu in the third quarter of 2004.

This is a major step by Accor to expand business on the Chinesemainland since its entry into the hotel market in 1985.

"Accor will expand its network in China and intends to provide a complete hotel network for the country," said Michael Issenberg, managing director of Accor Asia Pacific.

Accor now manages 21 hotels on the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
