Passengers pass through HK International Airport increase in August
          ( 2003-09-15 16:24) (Agencies)

The number of Passengers pass through Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reached 3.02 million in August, up 22.3 percent over that of July, according to Hong Kong Airport Authority Monday.

The Airport Authority said the August figure has reached over 90 percent of the pre-SARS level.

Traffic was partly boosted by Hong Kong people who traveled on summer holidays, including those who took advantage of attractive packages offered by airlines.

Visitors from most of HK's main markets have returned to pre-SARS levels, while traffic from Japan and North America was still at 90 percent.

Passenger flights in August were also up 23.7 percent over thatof July.

Cargo throughput for the month was 219,000 tons, up 5.5 percent year-on-year, mainly driven by growth in exports to the major markets of Europe, China's Taiwan and the mainland.
