The China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) launched a major refined product piping project in southwest China last Friday.

The launching ceremony was held at an oil store in Binyang County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The 1,691-km pipe will start in Maoming City, a major oil refinery base in south China's Guangdong Province and go through Guangxi as well as Guizhou and Yunnan provinces to end up in Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan, in the southwest.

The project, which will have an annual capacity of 10 million tons, is the largest of its kind in the country, according to company sources. It is scheduled to be completed by March 2005.
